One Room Challenge || Week 3. Daughter's study room / play room

Welcome back for the One Room Challenge's Week 3 (you can see Week 1 here and Week 2 here!!!)  I am re-desigining my daughter's play room/study room this time around.  This area is also like a sitting room for my guests so it has to be fun and comfortable for my daughter but nice enough for our guests to hang out and watch morning news as well.

I'm thrilled to be participating as a Guest Participant!! If you are not familiar with it The One Room Challenge was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago where she lines up twenty very talented featured designers to redo a room in just six weeks.  They share their progress every Wednesday.  And the Guest Participants (anyone can join!) report their progress on Thursdays.  So, today is Week 3 of the spring One Room Challenge journey.

So this week was crazy busy but I feel like I accomplished a lot. We have the bookcase designed and ordered, which is the main investment piece.  Here is a bit of a preview-

And it will be blue.  We finalized the color and it will be Sherwin Williams Danube (SW 6803). Which translates to Blue Blue.  It's bright and bold and a little scary but we are going with it.  I was tempted to do a darker blue because I have seen so many beautiful libraries and bars painted dark blue but I wanted to do something slightly unexpected.  And my daughter really wanted something bright.  Hopefully it will all tie together.

We also got our shades and pillows back and they look so good!  I'm thrilled with our fabric choices (read more about the fabric here).  They are really elegant, crisp and young at the same time. Love, love, love them!!

We brought in the extra desk from downstairs so she can have more room to study with a friend.  As you can see below, we also started taking all the books out from the ikea bookshelf we originally had. Don't do tomorrow what you can do today. We want to be ready for when the new bookcase makes it's way home!

Messy, messy.  But it must get worse for it to get better. Sometimes this is exactly how life is right?  One may not reach the dawn save by the path of the night. (Germain Greer).

Pretty pillows make the sofa look so much nicer!  I really regret not upholstering the sofa as well.  Ugh! Too late!  Thinking of all the juice and refreshment spills that this sofa will surely entertain in the next few years makes me feel better and like I made the right decision.

The uploshtered ottoman's look so great!  And I got the rug cleaned!  Very exciting.  It does need a rug pad underneath.  And I will let you know more about the one I'm getting next week!

And the womb chair is in!  My daughter has been reading non-stop in it since it arrived.  I say it already paid for itself!  And really it is the most comfortable thing on the planet. We were joking and saying that we needed to have a schedule so we all could spend equal time in it because it is just so comfy. The color is pretty sensational.  I don't know that it will all tie in together in the end with the pretty blue and white, but I will try.  I really don't know, but at least in pieces I like every.single.thing we have so far.

Everything is moving along.  The bookshelf should be ready in a few weeks. I'm still looking into the art and have a few good ideas.  Stay tuned! Here is my checklist from the first day:

  • PENDING. new bookcase
  • DONE. new fabric for shades and ottoman cubes.  We need to think of color schemes that can work with the existing turquoise/light blue in here.  My daughter has shown interest in wanting a blue and white space, which I like. A LOT.  So this may very well be the direction we go in.
  • DONE. new pillows for sofa
  • DONE. Arrived! nicer lounge chair
  • DONE! moved another desk in which we had in our family room. take a look at desk situation
  • take a look at table lamp situation
  • re-evaluate the art
  • style and accessorize.
