As we continue reading up a storm and binging new shows I thought I would share my recommendations. We are bound to need more options soon as I think this quarantine will be longer than we first expected.

READING

I finished Olivia Kitteridge (good) and Where Crawdads Sing (fabulous!). I would recommend both of them but Where the Crawdads sing is my clear top choice between the two. I can see it becoming a movie. Now I have been exploring my next reads and these are the books that have piqued my interest:

The Alice Network - This historical novel about a female spy recruited to the Alice network and an American socialite unite forces to find a missing person. Reading a little on war time sacrifices seems fitting to remind us that staying home is so easy compared to what others had to go through in the past.

The Lying Game - This is supposed to be a great thriller about a group of friends who were inseparable in high school and would play a ‘lying game’ that eventually got them kicked out of school. Years later one of the friends gets in touch…

Little Fires Everywhere - This is now a series in Hulu starring Reese Witherspoon. So this psychological mystery should be good.

The Light We Lost - This romantic novel is about a couple who met their senior year at Columbia and continues their history for the next 13 years. It is about the enduring power of first love.

The Cactus - a woman who enjoys being in control of everything is suddenly confronted with the loss of her mother and the news that she is about to become a mother herself. She is losing control but finds an unlikely ally and maybe even love.

The Last Guest- This is a chilling thriller involving the death of a young girl and her best friend is seen as the main suspect.

The Scent Keeper - It is a coming-of-age novel about childhood stories, families lost and found, and how a fragrance conjures memories capable of shaping the course of our lives.

Dear Edward - In this coming of age story, Edward is the sole survivor of a plane crash where he loses his family. Having to adjust to a new life this story is about ways a broken heart learns to love again.

The Holdout - One juror changed the verdict of a high profile murder of a 15 year-old girl. But what if this juror was wrong? As the present-day murder investigation weaves together with the story of what really happened during their deliberation, the secrets they have all been keeping threaten to come out.

The Thirteenth Tale - An instant NYT best seller. Reminiscent of Jane Eyre and Rebecca. I absolutely loved both books so I will definitely be getting this one.

The Wedding Date - This seems like a light and easy romantic comedy where a man invites a random girl to be his ‘fake girlfriend’ to his best friend’s wedding.

Have you read any of these? What great books have you read? Honestly, at this rate I may get to read of all of these. And if you love your classics, here is a great list of books you might have always wanted to read. Now is the time.

WATCHING

I really enjoyed season 1 of Goliath (on Amazon). It is a drunken lawyer who used to be a big shot and his latest case. The acting is fabulous with some heavy hitters and the story line is very suspenseful, also the characters are so well developed. Also, The Sinner season 1 and 2 (Netflix) were really entertaining. I highly recommend these. I thought the Widow (Netflix) was good about a woman who lost her husband in an airplane crash but then thinks she saw him in a news program and thinks he may still be alive. Alias Grace (Netflix) was different and interesting about a young servant girl in colonial America who is accused of murder. Is she responsible or should she be pardoned because of her insanity. My french friend recommended Bonfire of the Destiny and I loved this one as well. It’s in french, but has subtitles. It follows a group of women and how their lives change after a terrible fire in Paris. The homes and clothing are beautiful and it is refreshing to watch something that is foreign. I hear The Outsider (Amazon) is the latest great thriller must watch. Also, my mom just saw the preview to the Stranger and it looks so good. My daughter and I are dying to see Making the Cut (which starts tomorrow on Amazon). This is the new version of Project Runway with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. I was missing this duo! What recommendations do you have for me?

DOING

From yesterday’s post you all know I’m doing plenty of cooking. Also, we are playing tons of scrabble and taking long walks in the neighborhood to get some fresh air and burn at least a few calories. I have been meaning to buy a puzzle or two which is such a great way to bring the family together for a common purpose. I enjoy doing puzzles of paintings I love. Dying to do the Garden of Earthly Delights since I will miss seeing it this summer in Madrid as we just canceled our trip until we get a better grasp of the virus situation.
