ORC || Week One - My Daughter's Room

Yeay! The One Room Challenge is here!  I'm thrilled to be participating in the One Room Challenge Linking Participants!!  The One Room Challenge was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago where she lines up twenty very talented professional bloggers and designers to redo a room in just six weeks.  They share their progress every Wednesday.  And the Linking Participants (anyone can join!) report their progress on Thursdays.  And so because today is Thursday we begin!

Before we start I want to give you a little bit of a background.  I have participated in this challenge twice as an invited blogger where I did my family room and my walk-in closet.  I have also participated once as a linker where I re-did my little mudroom.  I'm no stranger to this challenge and know very well that six weeks comes and goes in a second and you keep your fingers crossed and hope that everything you ordered will get here on time.  Let's see what the future has in store.  I will be working on my daughter's room.  Let me show you some photos.

We moved about 2 years ago to our home.  All I did when we moved was paint my daughter's room green....we added an extra bed for little friends to sleep over, but aside from this everything else we had in her previous room.

This below is the east wall. The green walls stay.  I want to make things more exciting....and this for me means trim....(you can tell from my closet and mudroom that I'm a fan).  So, I am thinking this could be a good way to go.  The plaid bed skirt stays.  This is a lovely fabric from Brunschwig and Fils that I chose for my daughter's nursery when she was born.  The problem is that the other bed needs a skirt.  I hope they still have the fabric.

This wall (above) is the west wall and it's in front of the beds. That chair was in my childhood bedroom with the same fabric.....I love it, but we need a change.  My daughter wants a special reading nook and I know exactly what chair she is dying for.  The dresser was her changing table, which I had painted when we moved.  It's fine.  We will keep that.  The gallery wall....hmmm.....We might need to curate and minimize.  I have some very lovely prints and original pieces that we love in there.  Let's see what we come up with.

An important thing- I have to tell you about my daughter.....she is eight....so she has an opinion and it can be a very strong one.  Unfortunately, her taste is not very sophisticated yet, so we are already having some differences of opinion.  This must be managed, after all I want her to love her room.

This wall is the North wall and has the entrance to the bathroom.  I had a bookcase here and had just moved it out, hence the mess of books and tchotchkies everywhere.

Oh and the blue rug stays.  It was in her nursery and it is from Stark carpet and even though it's a bit small....the investment was made and it is fabulous.  So there you have it my friends- my challenge will be to transform this room into a more grown-up and sophisticated girl's room.   So my list of to-do's

1 ||  Find material for the bed skirt and make the skirt.

2 ||  Add trim? and if so, what color should it be?

3 || Find fabric for the night-table and make the skirt.

4 || Art?

5 || Desk?

6 ||  Lighting.  I would love to have a chandelier in here.

7 || Curtains....we have blackout shades and HUGE windows. I don't think that is an expense I want to get into.

8 ||  Reading Chair

I think this is it!  I hope you follow along!  I will be back with progress next Thursday.  In the meantime check out all the other participant's over at Calling it Home.

Oh and a few more shots for inspiration.
